About Skylar
About Skylar
I was born a surprise. My mother never fathomed she’d be having
twins, but I’m thankful I got to come along for the ride. As a child
growing up in North Carolina, I learned the richness of storytelling.
My grandmother is a natural and never fails to indulge in her
favorite past time. I can’t say I’m as vocal as she or my mother are,
but I like to think I funnel that talent into my writing.
I’ve always been creative in some way, whether I was drawing,
writing or creating plays with my sister complete with sound effects.
Through the years I cultivated my talents and made the tough
decision to pursue Art as my college major. I aspired to become the
next Elaine Duillo so I could make beautiful covers, even if my
professors didn’t think highly of that goal. During long hours in the
studio I had plenty of time to plot and dream of the future.
Unfortunately, I also needed enough credit hours to graduate.
That’s when I decided to minor in English. That way I could indulge
in class after class about writers and read their works. I can’t say it
turned out to be totally fun, but it led me to my first professional
Creative Writing class. I’d written when the mood hit plenty of
times, since I think most readers at one time or another also become
authors of poetry or prose. Now strict deadlines meant I had to make
my work count or else fail miserably. Thankfully I passed with flying
colors, even though my usually romantic themes were frowned
upon.
I wrote my first novel, Double Entendré, to prove to myself I could
do it, not to mention because I’d gotten tired of reading the same
plots everywhere I turned. Now I’ve finished my tenth manuscript
and am back in the hunt to find a publisher willing to print my
diligent efforts that aren’t always “mainstream” material. To pay the
bills, which everyone can relate to, I’m an E-Manual Technician
skilled in eBook creation. Plus I've trained in graphic design, so I can
pinpoint minute differences between papers and fonts. In my down
time, I still dream big and then strive to make my fantasies reality.

Where my blog resides (for now)!
Sunday - 5.4.08
Collage a la Vous: Got some old childhood pictures of you and your
partner lying around? Buy two small photo books, then sort the pile
into your pics and his/her pics. Then go to your separate corners to
work. No cheating! Each person is responsible for a special
scrapbooks for the other using any theme. Seeing the pictures your
partner selects to highlight, and the way he/she displays them will be
more special than the memory of doing the craft project together.
Plus you'll get to ooh and aah over them as coffee table accents when
guests/friends come over.
Sunday - 5.11.08
Hop a Train: No I'm not saying turn into a hobo. But if your honey
has an adventurous spirit, why not grab a train ride to a new locale?
Spend the day sightseeing, then hop back aboard for the ride home.
Depending on the size of your mad money or rainy day fund you
could also hop a plane. If you're a real sweetie you could make your
honey's Mother's Day extra special by giving him/her a chance to be
face-to-face with his/her mom!
Sunday - 5.17.08
Hula hooping: Got a hula hoop handy? Stand close to your partner
and slip the plastic circle down over the two of you. Each of you
should hold on with one hand, then countdown in unison. You can
shake your hips separately to keep the hula hoop going, but if you
bump and grind together you're sure to learn some new moves to
practice in the bedroom.
Sunday - 5.25.08
Twin Time: You know how parents always think it's cute to dress
their twins alike? Why not dress like your mate for a day? I'm not
suggesting you cross dress, just that you pick an ensemble that
would work for both genders. With the Memorial Day coming why
not also show your patriotism with blue jeans, a red shirt and white
sneakers? This little exercise will not only make you smile, but it
will makes others see you as a couple!
Sunday - 6.1.08
Two Cooks in the Kitchen: Everyone has to eat right? Why not plan
and prepare a simple (or elaborate) meal together. You can split up
the tasks or be each other's right hand. Just make sure that after you
plate the food, you both get to sit down and enjoy the fruits of your
labor. For a romantic touch, why not dress up and light a couple
candles. Who knows, it could lead to an extra reward for slaving over
that hot stove!
Sunday - 6.7.08
Dance, Dance Evolution: Want to turn up the heat? Then learn a
dance together! Some that are sure to get those hips gyrating are the
Tango, Rumba, Paso Doble, Cha Cha Cha, Mambo or Salsa. Even if
one of you have two left feet, you'll still be having fun! Just think if
you go out and the music starts to play, you won't have to sit out on
the sidelines because you'll know how to "shake your body, body"!
Sunday - 6.15.08
Double Team It: Got a project you need to get done, but you've put it
off because it requires 2 people? Why not ask your partner to help?
Eventhough he/she might not be a great handyperson, they can be
your sidekick to double team the problem. Who knows maybe they'll
find a hidden talent. And you'll both share the pride of a job done
right that you can look back on with a smile!
Sunday - 6.22.08
Slip & Slide: Zapped of your energy from the high temps? Don that
swimsuit or those trunks and rev up that hose! Whether you two
waltz through the sprinklers, hose each other off while you're
soaping up the car, or take time out to slip and slide like a kid, do get
wet and wild. If people think you're crazy, blame it on the heat. They
don't have to know you feel that way on the inside too!
Sunday - 6.29.08
Sundae Split: Is your significant other always complaining about
dessert's calories? Then share a banana split or that one scoop
between the two of you. Better yet, if your sweet tooth's differ, try
a cake and ice cream combo. That way you can have your own sweet
treat, or if you play nice, you can make a mutual exchange. Just
don't forget to seal the deal with a sweet kiss on the lips!
